Scotty McCreery Sings ‘Man of Constant Sorrow’ at California Concert

If Scotty McCreery‘s time on ‘American Idol‘ didn’t prove that he’s capable of covering just about any song ever recorded, his stage show will. The singer played ‘Man of Constant Sorry’ by the Soggy Bottom Boys during a show in Lancaster, Calif. on Sunday night, as seen in the video below.

The gig at the University of Antelope Valley came after a weekend of shows on Brad Paisley‘s Virtual Reality Tour. According to MjsBigBlog.com, 1,600 fans packed the Pioneer Events Center. The singer’s set list also included covers of songs by George Strait, Elvis Presley and Travis Tritt. It seems that ‘Your Man’ by Josh Turner has been purged from his set list.

McCreery’s version of the song from the ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ soundtrack is well-rehearsed, down to the theatrical introduction (those who’ve seen the movie will recognize what he’s trying to do). The nearly four-minute long clip includes a banjo, guitar and bass solo, and of course McCreery was spot on with the lyrics.

Information has just come out that Scotty has been accepted to the first (of many) schools that he applied to! East Carolina has officially accepted Scotty, though this does not guarantee his attendance. North Carolina, Belmont, and Tennessee are still in the mix for Scotty as he awaits other letters. Nonetheless, Congrats Scotty on your first acceptance letter! Many of you know that feeling of receiving your very first college acceptance letter! It is a big moment!

On top of this; I was able to find a video of the "Scotty Prank" on youtube. Paisley's already started with this "Scotty at the beach" photo in the midst of a performance. It's pretty funny and I hope you enjoy it!

*It comes up around 2minutes in the video!

Goodbye "Idol," hello "Dixie"!

HuffPost TV has just learned exclusively that "American Idol" Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery will be making an appearance on The CW's "Hart of Dixie" this spring.

In the episode, which is slated to air on April 23, McCreery will be playing himself, singing his hit country single "The Trouble With Girls," which he will perform during a pivotal scene between Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and George (Scott Porter).

The 18-year-old's debut album, "Clear As Day," was certified platinum in just three months, and he was recently named No. 1 on Billboard magazine's list of Top New Country Artists for 2011. Have any plans for Feb. 12th? Well, if you're in North Carolina I just may have some information you'll want.

Scotty will be making an appearance at the Hoops 4 Hoops Women's Basketball game at NC state's 'Reynold's Coliseum'. The game will begin at 4pm, and for those who wish to attend, general admission is only $10 for adults and $5 for youth. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

If you won't be able to make it, you can watch it on ESPN 2 in hopes to see Scotty. I'm not sure exactly what role he will have during the event, but nonetheless, this could be your chance to meet him or hear him sing!

Tickets can be purchased at http://www.gopack.com/ot/h4h/index.html.

*Thanks for the name correction!

Why Scotty McCreery Was A Successful 'American Idol' Winner

Most every fan of the show has asked themselves it at some point...why are some 'American Idol' winners successful, yet some simply go on and mostly disappear in the industry?

But most importantly, what made last year so different? There were new judges, two country teens in the finale, and the winner's debut album went platinum in just three months!

'American Idol' executive producer, Ken Warwick, explains Scotty McCreery's success on the show! Reported by
AZ Central  :

Q: Last season Scotty McCreery won and has been successful. Two years before, it wasn't the same for winner Lee DeWyze. Why is that?

A: Scotty just appealed to a big audience. That country audience down South is huge. Scotty just absolutely fit the keyhole that he was made for. He was young, good-looking, a sportsman, a wholesome kid and he had this lovely, rich bass-baritone voice. We always say to these kids: It's not that you can sing, but have you got something about you that you can communicate commercially? Scotty was really made for the show. He was a slam dunk.
Scotty McCreery really has appealed to every age group, from the "Grandmas for Scotty", to 4 year olds sporting Scotty t-shirts and waving homemade posters at hometown viewing parties and the American Idol Season 10 Live Tour stops!

The 18 year old from Garner, NC will go on to have a long and successful career...season 10 was definitely a year that America got it right!
